THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

as you swallow, you hold you breath longer, why???

i was going UBW exercise, the 3rd one where you just hold your breath. my times were like 65 seconds until tonight, 92 seconds. when i was at around 63 seconds, i was going to give up. so right when i was about to breath again i swallow my saliva, it helps. it seems like i can get another 5 seconds in. which i did, then when i feel like breathing, i swallow again, it took me all the way to 92 seconds. i didn't inhale or exhale, all i did was swallow. it seems like as a swallow, my lungs got bigger, or its just an illusion?? whats going on in my body?? is it a downward pressure thing??

Re: as you swallow, you hold you breath longer, why???

Never heard of that one. I think you just invented a new great tip:)

Re: as you swallow, you hold you breath longer, why???

jaime i think you should try it and see if it also applies to you.

Re: as you swallow, you hold you breath longer, why???

Actually, I'm not sure why but it does work. I practiced synchronized swimming for 8 years when I was a child and we'd alway do a couple laps under water at the end of each lesson. I remember swallowing when I ran out of breath and it kept me going a few more meters before coming out of the water to breathe!

I think it moves your mind from very the thought of needing air or perhaps it moves the pressure down a bit.
