THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Question about Jim Gillette

Hey Jaime or anyone else who knows: I was wondering, when Jim hits those D6s in the Nitro albums is he using whistle voice, or is that in head voice? A couple of years ago when I discovered Nitro for the first time I was determined to hit those notes and made it as high as a C6, but I couldn't hold it out for more than a second or two, and after doing this for a while I ended up blowing out my voice! But I didn't know about whistle register back then, and I'm wondering now if that's how it's done, or what.

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

nah its not whistle voice... Its all reinforced falsetto

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

Yepp i would say that too reinforced falsetto. He uses that alot for his high high range.

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

Considering I talk to Jim almost every other day, I can tell you it's NOT whistle. He does a lot like Halford by mixing it up in between full voice and a reinforced falsetto.

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

Wow, that's pretty impressive!

Thanks for the answer.

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

Its all the same .... "reinforced falsetto" or "full voice" ... its respiratory velocity + sound production, placed inside the head register. Add soft contraction of the Aryepiglottic Sphincter to cut the timbre, and your there.

Hi Tim...

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

i know this is off topic but does anybody know how Jim's fighting career is going?

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

It is going FANTASTIC. He is really into his childred and I am gere to tell you that as they get older, they WILL be the top fighters in the world. They all live and breathe Jiu Jitsu.

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

i am anxiously awaiting the fighting debut of the heavyweight champion of scream. do you know if he plans on going to the ufc anytime soon?

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

I am bored and decided to post a sort of related post to the topic. Guys I finally managed to get my hands on "Proud to Be Loud." This song is like an anthem to all aspiring musicians and especially singers. If Jaime won't mind I can upload and link it here. Otherwise you can get a CD from http://www.rlsrecords.com/main.htm. The song proud to be loud is one of my favs now. I also ordered Vocal Power. Hasn't arrived yet, but I am expecting it to be great. After all, I expect nothing less from Mr. Gillette.

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

I don't mind, I'm sure Jim won't either. It's just one song;)

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

vocal power is actually the product that gave me hope that i wasn't a hopeless singer. lotsa bang for the buck...and its funny too

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

If you are still doing the exercises, try doing them as soft and as clear as possible-almost silent but no whispering. Just try it for a few weeks;)

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

Jaime are you talking about Vocal Power exercises? Are these the ones to be done softly?

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

Oh, and as promised here is the link uploaded "Proud To Be Loud."

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

oh and yes thats a pretty kickass song

Re: Question about Jim Gillette

Doing them softly can help you to prorgress regardless of the state of your voice right now.

Re: Question about Jim Gillette
