THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

microphone

So I'm looking for a microphone that doesn't go over the price of $150.Also,my voice teacher said there are certain models that are fit for a female voice.
I've seen some on musiciansfriend.com that are like $20,but that seems too good to be true.
Anyone know a good model?

Re: microphone

You can definitely get a pretty decent mic for under 150, 20 dollars is a bit cheap though. You prolly wanna aim somewhere around 80 dollars or up.

Re: microphone

I have done some homework with mics. It seems that the Shure Beta 58 is a great mic for most people. I bought the regular Shure 58 and it is a good mic, but it isn't very bright sounding. I have heard some good things about the German mics, but I think they are a little expensive. I think the Beta 58 runs for around $150. Go to the search part of the forum and there are many mic posts. Hope this helps.

Re: microphone

A shure beta is a good one I used for a long time, but then Looked in to Carvin, and found they have greay mics. Plus it only ran around $90.

Re: microphone

Thanks, folks.I actually went to a music store a few days ago and the guy I talked to said Shure is a very good mic. They were about $60 but the used ones were like $30.
So after I get a mic,I have to save my money for a whole sound system

Re: microphone

Go for the Beta 58 if you can. I have the normal SM58 myself and I quite like it as a live mic and it's cheap but the Beta 58 plainly sounds much better, more professional and bright.

Now, about the "while soundsystem", it really depends on what you want to do. If you only care about recording at home, you can do with just a *good* mic pre-amp and a good recording sound-card. I've never up to now needed a preamp and PA system of my own for a gig, although a wireless monitor setup would be quite handy to have (and way off my price range... :-P).

Re: microphone

^Well,I really don't know what to do about the sound system thing. What I want is to have something I can use for gigs, but I just don't have the money for that.I do have money to buy an accoustic guitar amp which also allows a mic to be used with it.When I went to the store, there were like 15 options to choose from.

We'll see.Maybe I'll get a job other than babysitting <_<
