THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

VIBRATO

I think I have a pretty good voice but when I do long notes, they sound choppy because I don't not know how to add vibrato to my voice. Please help me achieve vibrato! Thank you so much!

Re: VIBRATO

If your tongue is not positioned properly (too much backward or too much forward) you won't get any vibrato. You can achieve a perfectle relaxed tongue by saying the sounds: "The" or "Gna" than let the tongue rest its tip slightly on the top of your front teeth. It should always go back to that position during enunciation. It you do it correctly, you will see a "U" shape appear in the back of your tongue. Let me know if that helps!

Re: VIBRATO

also, too much pressure from your support, and too much air can cause tension and prevent vibrato from happening. Relax when your sing!

Re: VIBRATO

i first started off learning vibrato by humming.
Do some trills whilst humming very lightly... until eventually you start feeling it happen without conciously changing the pitch....
then keep gradually building on it....from low full voice notes to high full vice notes.

Re: VIBRATO

thanks so much

Re: VIBRATO

There is something I need to ask. Basically, when I do vibrato, I use what I think is stomach vibrato with a slight pitch vibrato (or not so slight in other styles). Is it normal that my jaw and the muscles underneath it are pulsating? Wherever I can use full voice (chest plus the lowest notes of the head voice) it's mostly the stomach, the jaw is hardly moving but when I use falsetto or even more so when I use reinforced falsetto, the jaw is *really* pulsating a lot. It doesn't sound bad at all but I find that when it's mostly the jaw and the muscles there that are pulsating, I have a limit on the speed of my vibrato that isn't that high. Is this normal?
