THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Defenitions

Hi Jaime. I am only familiar with the Singing Success terminology of the voice. I have not bought your program yet so most of the time I have no Idea what you guys are talking about. What i wanted to ask is if someone could explain the definitions that you use in SS terms.

Re: Defenitions

i think is the same as in the singing success program.
talks about the same break points ex: E4 for tenor,
+-Db4 for baritone.. and the definitions of head
voice, falsetto, mix are the same.

is this you wanted??

Re: Defenitions

You might also see abbreviations like RYV, (Raise Your Voice) UBW (Ultimate Breathing Workout), FS (falsetto slide), TT (Transcending Tone).

It took me a while to catch on to these, and I have the book, I'm just not that hip with my internet lingo, haha. (or should I say lol)

The last two are actual exercises detailed in the book. For the record, I personally recommend it. It's a great read, with some really good exercises, and it's very reasonably priced too.

Re: Defenitions

So what is the Full voice

Re: Defenitions

you can think as the "hard voice". is not that gay
voice, neither that soft voice. is that hard sound,
has an edge. Its agressive. Generally has a high
volume. Sounds like chest voice or in the high part
of the voice, sounds like a forced chest voice but
isn't.

think this as bruce dickinson or any singer singing a
song.. if he is singing a part of the song that his
voice is very soft, like a lullaby, isnt full voice.
now if the part is very hard, rough.. is full voice.

get it?

this is my idea.

Re: Defenitions

perhaps another way to describe it would be as the range in which your vocal chords are able to sustain and control your full breath pressure (and therefore volume). In this way you can understand how strengthening can increase your "full voice" range. In other words, at the beginning of your training, there may be high notes that you can sing in falsetto, but when you try to swell the volume and tone, your chords give way, and after strengthening and training, those same notes can be sung at full power (i.e. in full voice)
