Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

About reinforced falsetto being a wall that singers might hit in the process of developing there voices. Before you had high full voice notes throughout your range you obviously learned to trancend into full voice from that. The problem is I feel like many singers including myself can access this, but not go further because we cant comprehend how little air we actually need to get into a nice head voice. We can hiss air out 30+ seconds but when it comes to singing we use way to much air for proper zippage. The sensation of buzzing we get from reinforced falsetto may seem powerful but again sounds breathy and weak and is not true to what type of full voice resonation we should experience. If I get to full voice I should feel a massive amount of resonance because of chords blocking air and vibrating against it in my larynx. The vibrations then carrying all over into my resonators. If its reinforced falsetto I should feel some resonation but more of a sensation of air shooting up in my skull instead of resonance, and with that sensation I can visualize and feel that with RF. So with that being said I thought up a visual example that may help some people and enlighten others. The example would be blowing up a balloon full of air, then slowly zipping up the open end partialy. This idea is great because of the exact representation of its nature. As we open it up a little bit we get a high pitched resonant squeal, like that of our voices. Its a proper zip due to air pressure and we can get a variety of high tones from this process, we can even see how little air this actually uses. The balloons end is just like are vocal chords. Now look what happens as we unzip and let more air out. The tone goes from resonant to breathy and we are then stuck in a simulated reinforced falsetto state that we all grow to love lol. Keep in mind about how much air is coming out and youll see why we cant reach those notes in our voices. Now if you clamp down in your throat you get a false full voice, hurt your throat and u can simulate that with the balloon end as well, it just takes a light squeeze from the inner muscles to get the resonance that we will need for full voice. Another thing in this demonstration that I realized is that the end of the balloon is not that far off from the length of our vocal chords so your actually look at how well you will need to support your breath based on this. Hopefully if you mess with this idea and a balloon you will visualize it being your lungs and chords and applying this to your voice you can develop a deeper understand of the hurdle you must jump over and the true sense of release we must reach. The key to singing is breath support, you might be doing all of the exercises right but you will never get the zip you need. I bet if we match our breath support with the balloon we will begin to gain full voice quickly and actually learn to manipulate our resonators to apply new forms of tone! Cool thought. Glad you shared. Things to mention though is that reinforced falsetto will not have the same resonance as full voice, but it will feel like it is totally up in the head. Keep the voice focused in the soft palate at all times. Also, reinforced sstill should niot be felt down in the throat and is not produced from a tight glosttis. It is still wider than full voice.
