THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Knowledge is power

Just something that I found useful and I think it is appropiate to share. Even though most of the time Jaime emphasizes not over analyzing stuff, for me at least having a better understanding of each of theparts of the larynx and resonators involved in voice production, has helped me a whole lot. I would say that it would be something good to include a brief explanation on each muscle and its role. For example it has helped on really understanding how do I produce falsetto tones, and how do they adjust into full voiced tones, making it easier for me to do..

just as a suggestion I think that a more technical and specific (though simple) explanation of each part can really make things easier to don (it is working for me, and I'm sure I'm not an isolated case, coz that knowledge combined with your exercises is really magic) ... just that :P.. oh and just letting you know... these days I'm feeling much comfortable with the sound of my voice :)

Re: Knowledge is power

I did not focus on explaining the anatomy for a reason...You don't really need to know how an engine works to drive the car do you??? But, I can say that I am adding a few useful tips in RYV II to clarify a bit of this.

Re: Knowledge is power

Jaime your analogy is right but you know we all are just humans and there are some people who need to see diagram of how fast can you put on the brakes and stop that car depending on your speed, weather conditions, tire type, break model, car type to feel more comfortable while driving. I know it sounds stupid BUT everyone has his way how to do things. Although it's really not wise to start learning anatomy, phoniatry etc instead of singing. And sometimes it's wise to worry more 'cause there is a lot of guys how say "Oh man I'm progressing so fast I really can do everything and I don't strain at all after a week I'll be ready to start my growl singing" and then later "Oh do you have some tips for me- you see I coughed up some blood and..." I'm not interested in too tiny details but I'm pretty sensitive and I feel differences when I do this or that with my voice and it's nice to understand what's acctualy happening. I guess it's little-whining-girls attitude(no offence to our singing ladies). Besides Jaime you're the man and you're the master but we ordinary mortals sometimes feel frustrated that we see nothing from our vocal cords. I can improve my drumming bit faster cause there I really don't such a stupid questions but it's because I can control my movments by seening them. So we are very happy that you explain us everything in this forum.
I'm impatient to get RYV II.

Re: Knowledge is power

Jaime knows better than anyone that I'm the damn king of over-analyzation! I've annoyed him with questions about the same subject over and over again! Haha.

Re: Knowledge is power

I'm not the master but thanks ;)Check out Jeannie Deva's book, The Contemporary Vocalist for anatomy details. She's actually supply the useful tips for anatomy. I studied anotomy like crazy but want to keep my approach as a sensation thing so I asked her to do the anatomy tips ;)
