THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Breathing Guide

I met Jaime on Myspace who in return I had seen on Mythbusters. I had no idea he was a vocal teacher until someone mentioned him over at metal method.

I took vocal lessons from a local teacher in my area 7 years ago and used and still use Jim Gilette's Vocal Power as references and excercises. Only thing is he doiesn't touch alot of breathing. A little he does though.

I can sing well and higher than 7 years ago for sure but...I could still reach a higher range if...I could master breathing and sustain just a tad bit better.

Most of my problems deal with breathing techniques. Sometimes I can run out of gas, so to speak.

But Jaime invited me to come over here and just ask around about his books. I am interested in RYV, but one in particular is the breathing book guide.

I was just wondering who all here has it and how has has it changed and developed your habits with breathing?

Thanks. John

Re: Breathing Guide

Dude,

Jaime is very humble and won't brag on his books!

Get both of them - The breathing book is worth its wait in gold as well. Although I am not singing in a band, my range and tonation have been massively expanded and I am getting ready to start leading worship at our church again...... Like I said both are good and you will get access to the members section as well with tons of demos and examples.

Well thats my .02 worth

Re: Breathing Guide

Thanks Chris.

I'm sure Jaime is humble. I was meaning he had invited me here to get other's opinions on his books to see if it would be something that would be of help. I don't think he was bragging. He was just being helpful.

Hopefully that was the real him. Which I believe was.

Re: Breathing Guide

John, you should definitely look into buying Jaime's books. They have totally changed the way I think about the voice and the way I use it. After reading the book and consistently practicing the exercises, I feel like I'm very much "in control" of my voice- especially because of the breathing stuff. I'm sure it will help you too!

Re: Breathing Guide

Thanks for your reply LegatoMan.

I ended buying both books.

Re: Breathing Guide

Nope thats what I meant he doesnt brag.
You will be very happy with the results
from both books - I know I am

Re: Breathing Guide

Finally received RYV and the breathing guide today. It has helped me already and I started with another vocal teacher again who says I am in the wrong profession(as in singing rock/metal)

And that I should be singing opera. She said my voice is that strong. I was like...wow and thanks. Because I don't really see that.

Re: Breathing Guide

Awesome! Good luck with that new teacher.

Re: Breathing Guide

I am able to hold a note for 25 seconds now. Without straining or feeling like I'm gonna die. After 25 seconds I kind of start to strain and can't go no further. But I am amazed at the progress so far. Still have a long ways to go and much practice on the exercises to get to a minute.

Re: Breathing Guide

Hi John,

I confirm. You should buy both.
Jaime's books will act like a guide. They are like 2 main chapters of the singer's Bible to me. It's a lot of work to develop breathing technique and voice... but it's worth to do if that's what you really want :)

Wish you succes !

Mag

Re: Breathing Guide

Actually I have them now, M.

After having them and practicing from the UBG it has really helped me a whole lot. Actually from both books.

I come here on my days off and practice the exercises from the audio as well as the regular ones i was doing daily on my own anyway.

But in all I agree, both are great guides.
