THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Wind Instruments and Singing

This question is for Jaime but anybody else can answer as well. My friend over the AB forum and I were having a little debate as to whether or not having played trumpet might help in becoming a better singer. He mentioned that we should hope for you Jaime to visit the forum today and clarify the matter for us but instead, I said I would ask you myself!

His argument is that it doesn't because the technique to produce the sound is not the same while I still maintain that it might contribute to developing lung capacity, endurance and control. What do you think?

Re: Wind Instruments and Singing

I agree. It will help with breath control and endurance. In reality though, ALL instruments help in learning another. As a guitarist, I know that I have had an easier time getting better at that since I started singing, and it is easier for me to pick up pian o now that I've started learning. Singing may not be the same as any other instrument in application, but in theory, it's quite familiar.

Re: Wind Instruments and Singing

I believe that playing a wind instrument such as the trumpet, is an excellent way to develop your lung strength and capacity. For your friend to say that is just a matter of his personal opinion. I play flute and Sax (well, I really haven't in a few years, but,)it has definitely helped me. Any type of aerobic workout will help build your stamina, regardless of wheter it is running, swimming or trumpet playing.

Re: Wind Instruments and Singing

Haha! I knew it! I agree with both of you! I play guitar and practiced synchronized swimming for years and I've always felt that both helped me with my singing too By the way Jaime, that would be a good question to keep in mind for your up coming interview with Myles cause the first argument was provided by Myles himself to my friend Chris when he asked him the same question! I'm still looking forward to that you know

Re: Wind Instruments and Singing

Hi there,

Waht's that? you're gonna interview Myles? are you talking about Myles Kennedy? if you are....dood!!! that rocks!! He's such a great singer. I am definitely interested in his approach in singing. When is this interview going to happen?

Re: Wind Instruments and Singing

Myles has called me 5 or 6 times. We just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll get on the ball and get it done before the new release.
