THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Elizabeth Sabine books

Anyone know a good place to get them from? Her website isn't up any more and I can only find one on amazon (and that's for $190). Help!?!

Re: Elizabeth Sabine books

Howdy, I happen to own "Strengthening Your Singing Voice" , I got really lucky in finding it from a used bookstore through amazon. It's really really hard to find. You might be able to find some online bookseller with it at froogle.com. However, if your library does interlibrary loans, ask a librarian about searching the World Catalog, which has all of the books at most every library everywhere. According to my own search, there are 69 libraries worldwide that have this book. You should be able to check it out from one of these places for free.

The book itself is a mixed bag. It gives great importance to really feeling the emotions of the song you're singing, which I think is great. On the other hand, she encourages keeping the abdominal muscles tightened and thought "down" for however long you sing. I think applying the power push constantly may be more tiring than it's worth. Additionally, her teacher Robert Mazzarella, (who is younger than her, and whose work is even harder to find!) teaches that the voice is produced by electricity produced by contracting the abdominal muscles, and not by breath pressure. I've just recently gotten one of his books through the interlibrary loan system, but have yet to read through to make sense of his theory.

Bottom line: Try to check it out from a library, find an online bookseller with it going for cheap, or just read and practice RYV, it's generally more helpful anyway.

Re: Elizabeth Sabine books

I talked to a friend of hers a few weeks a go and I am going to try to get the last of her supply on The Voice Connection soon.

Hi,
I am a former student of hers and wondering if anyone knows if she is still around? I tried to call her number and it was disconnected, I am wondering if she is still with us?...

thanks

Re: Elizabeth Sabine books

Elizabeth is in a home, bless her heart. Her little legs just couldn't hold out much more. But she is okay.
