THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Sing like this guy

hey,

I'm really confused in how many different vocal programs are out there so I'm thinking about jaime's because of all the miracles that have come out of it. The only thing turning me away from his program is the classic rock style. I'm more into more modern music. I love the classics don't get me wrong but i want to learn how to sing really really high like the band circa survive. I just wanted to know if Jaime's program would help me achieve this type of range.

circa survives myspace (so you can get a listen of those vocals) www.myspace.com/circasurvive listen to act appalled

thanks so much

Re: Sing like this guy

Well, as I recall Jaime doesn't go into it tons and tons, but he teaches you how to get into whistle register. Other than that, a big part of his program has to do with singing up comfortably into head voice with a big, full sound.

Now if you're looking for a pure pop sound, I think other programs might be better for you since full voice isn't usually used on the super high notes in pop music that I've noticed. I think Jaime suggested the Seth Riggs program to someone, once, for a pop sound.

Now on the other hand, I like to sing pop from time to time, and I still plan to use Jaime's program because I've found that it's quite natural for me to mix to a lighter more pop-styled sound anyways, so the full voice will be just another technique :).

I'd still suggest you get Jaime's book. The more tricks in your back, the more versatile your voice will become.

Re: Sing like this guy

well this band isn't really pop at all and he's not in his whistle register, he's either got a strong falsetto or and high head voice im just wondering if jaime's program would teach me this type of singing

Re: Sing like this guy

My program has got you covered. I'm listening to the track you mentioned right now. I don't know where you get I just teach classic rock, haha. I work with a lot of new bands, but I'm Zeppelinesque myself. I really like this guys voice and I'm gonna have to buy their CD now. He's singing in full voice by the way;) Technique is technique and this guy actually reminds me of the singers that I like, scream and tonality wise, like Lenny Wolf, or Miljenko Matijevic. This singer is along the lines of Mars Volta, and he doesn't sing really high, so if you want to hit those notes, we've got you covered, (and about an octave higher ;)

JV

PS go to www.myspace.com/jaimevendera and watch my video. You'll see that I attack the notes the same way this guy does, but I'm probably a little fuller tone wise. Not that that matters, that's just our individual tonality.

Re: Sing like this guy

Wow, i'm picking up your book tonight. Thank you so incredibly much.
