THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

How much does sleep really affect your voice?

I've gotten....Oh...7 hours the past two days and my mid-range is really, really hard to sing fully in. Falsetto and mix are slightly off-key. How well does everybody else's voice hold when they're not getting enough sleep? I haven't lost notes...Haven't gained any either. Singing in whistle is just harder and my mid-range is, like I said, fine until I start to push past my 'this is completely and utterly effortless I could do this in my sleep' point. I'm gonna take a break until I get some sleep so I don't screw anything up, but still...What's it like for everyone else?

Re: How much does sleep really affect your voice?

Sleep is EXTREMELY important to your voice. I mean really good sleep. And to be honest, 8 hours sleep is just a rumor. You might be a person who is better suited for 6,7,8,9, or 10 hours. It has been proven that 6 - 7 is far more regenerative for your body than 8, but you have got to find the time that worls for you, when you feel most refreshed. Also, try using Valerian Root as a natural sleep inducer. OTC sleepinmg aids just disrup[t the natural sleeop cycle and will rob yoiu of energy.

Re: How much does sleep really affect your voice?

I read somewhere that sleep doesn't affect your voice at all. In fact, it's supposed to help it.

On that note, I usually average about twelve hours of sleep a day. I attribute this to the fact that I'm sick, and I attribute that to eating a whole bag of uncooked pepperoni.

I, uh, wanted a spicy voice.

Re: How much does sleep really affect your voice?

if i get more then 8 hours of sleep i cant do nothing im dead. about 7 or 8 is perfect. 9 forget imnot even alive

Re: How much does sleep really affect your voice?

I hope the guy who originally wrote this reads this, but our R.E.M. cyclyes are approximately 90 minutes. This means that, if your cycles are almost exactly 90 minutes, that it can be more beneficial to sleep for 6 hours as opposed to 6 and 1/2! Try to never take 45 minute naps because you're basically waking yourself up during your deepest sleep. Keep your intervals in check and please reply to this...reply...and let me know if it's helping you at all. Take care.

Re: How much does sleep really affect your voice?

I have found when I get less than 7, my voice feels like crap. 8+ feels great for me. I just had laryngitis recently and I tried to sleep as much as possible. I HATE LARYNGITIS!!!. I couldn't speak at all.
