THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Why the terms like 'head voice' 'chest voice' 'mix voice' is going to limit your potential !!!

I see a lot of confused people when it comes to range and power. They have heard this term 'head voice' and they think that that is a magic shift that you must made and sing higher. Head voice is not a voice. ITS ALL ONE VOICE. Every tone comes from the same place. Your vocal cords. The terms like head voice and chest voice and mix voice is only confusing you. If you want more range or more power you need to learn how to support the notes and focus it in the palate. That's it. When you do a siren and you use the POWERPUSH thus focusing it in the palate the voice will 'connect' itself. What you call head voice , is actually full voice. But no one ever explained to you that it is called head voice because the resonance is placed in the soft palate. How do i reach my head voice? That is a dumb question. What you are looking for is not a specific VOICE. You are looking for a pure resonant tone in the soft palate. Keep it there , and no matter how high you go , you will not strain. That is why we need support.

Re: Why the terms like 'head voice' 'chest voice' 'mix voice' is going to limit your potential !!!

I've gotta say here that I disagree, because for me terms like head voice and chest voice are awesome and they describe exactly what's happening. It is simply the term that describes where the resonance is at any given pitch.

For me, thinking that "oh yeah i should probably sing this part in head voice and the next one in chest so it's easier" was a great tool in the beginning, it helped quite alot. Now that I've done it for some time and I've practiced even more, it's become more automatical and the voice indeed feels alot more connected and the barriers between head and chest voice start to dissolve. Now I just feel the resonance somewhere in my body and don't have to think so much how to do it anymore.

However, if I try to think about soft palate and support, it just ****s me up. So, it's really down to personal preferences and accustoms.

Everyone is different. In the end you should use or not use terms that work for you;)
