THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Any help at all?

Any help at all?
You should probably wait for one of the vocal heavy weights to answer this one. Oiselle, Jamie Vendera, Martin (our resident vocal technique Jedi), or Doug would be good ones. There are some monster singers on this board. I'm not one of em. LOL! Someone will get back to you. We'd love to hear what you sound like. It might be helpful if you post audio/video clips you you singing both ways, to help diagnose what is going wrong.

Re: sustain

Ok :D Well I can only record via phone, cause for some reason my camera doesn't react when i plug it in by USB. I'll try to record it somehow.

I'll try to explain... My voice sounds like ...Bryan Adams when I sing high. It's breathy and even though I can sing very high (from E2 up to F5 full voice, when doing scales sometimes I even reach G5) I always feel like torturing myself and I often strain after a gig. I started doing the 7 week program today so I hope I'll see some progress. Who knows, maybe I am doing the exercises correctly but simply didn't get used to the feeling of proper breathing so while singing I try to concentrate too hard.... Forget about it, I'll try to get used to it exercising and then I'll turn to singing again (The only problem is I still have to sing for my band during these 7 weeks :/).... thanks anyway xD

Re: sustain

It's hard to say what you are doing wrong just based on a post. My guess is that you are over applying the instructions adding too much pressure on your vocal cords and tensing up your larynx. If you need help in the form of a lesson I'd be happy to give you more direction. Bring things down a notch ;) Relax more! Hope that helps!
