Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.
This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)
This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.
Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Great song, great vocals! And I honestly have to admitt that I can imagine you beeing a famous country artist while listening to your records. No joke! It sounds really professional!

Oh my! What a compliment! Thank you so much. I guess I'm just lucky to have found what my voice does well naturally and exploit the snot out of it.
Your kinds words mean a lot to me. I train my voice so I can sing anything I want, but honestly I think some people naturally have things about their voices (tone, range, tessiatura, grit, voice type) that makes their voices better suited to particular styles. I used to try to sing a lot higher and harder and while it didn't sound bad.......something was missing. One day my wife and I were watching American Idol and Scotty McCreary came on singing a Josh Turner song really low. I was kinda joking with my wife when I said, "Oh I can do that!" I started to sing it low like that. Her jaw hit the floor and was like...oh wow! I was just kidding around. It felt really natural and easy, so I'm focusing on that kind of thing instead of trying to force my voice to do stuff and sound like other people. I'll never be Steve Perry from Journey. I'll never sing like Robert Plant of Led Zep. I do love their music, and I've accepted that. I can still sound great sounding like Ben Stokes though. I hope I don't sound arrogant. I am trying to encourage everyone else out there. You can do it!
