THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: A few more covers

Hi Alkis,

I cant critique because I am just a beginner but I can definitely comment that your voice is a winner!

Can you still remember your highest note when you started and how long did it take you to be as outstanding as this?

cheers,

derick

Re: A few more covers

I wouldn't call me outstanding... The glass is half empty from where I'm standing.

About the highest notes, hmm, my highest notes are reinforced falsetto and that range has been altered, I could hit those since the first time I figured out how to do reinforced falsetto, 8 years ago. If anything, my highest is a little bit lower, as my voice is a bit deeper than it used to be when I was a teenager.

What changed is the full voice range and the breaks. I used to have two voices, a chest voice and a falsetto with a break, where my chest voice was strained and my falsetto sounded crap. I had no way to produce any fuller notes. Make no mistake, I am lazy when it comes to training, I prefer to sing songs. I used what I learnt from RYV and had a gradual improvement, actually doing the exercises properly would undoubtedly have been faster. First, I had to weaken the top end of my chest voice ("let go"). That made it possible to make a smooth transition into falsetto. From there, I was gradually able to strengthen the voice on both sides, making the top end of my chest register effortless and granting me a mixed voice bridge between that and the falsetto-toned head register. What also happened after that is that I started to be able to maintain closure into the head register, increasing my full voice range and that process is still ongoing.

Re: A few more covers

Dont be too hard on yourself, you are outstanding haha. Seriously, I know what you mean. I can relate your experience with my guitar playing. Ive been playing since high school but only in the last few years I did proper training. Now I am thinking if only I practiced properly early on, who knows I could have been playing music as a living (not necessarily famous). At least with my vocal training, I believe I started on the right track by discovering RYV2.

Thanks a lot for sharing, its very encouraging!

cheers,

Re: A few more covers

WOOOOW YOU´RE AWESOME!!!!
I can tell your biggest influence is rob halford ;))
but I have to say (and I am serious) that you sound even a lot better than halford in some parts and I am a BIG halford fan but your voice is killer.
Your technique has to be really mature to sing stuff like that and I believe your technique is indeed mature......and those high screams at the end of green manalishi are as facemelting as it gets.
I am really interested on how you trained your voice!!! Did you take lessons??? How long have you been training your voice until you were ready to sing killer stuff like that???

Cheers
René
