THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Vocal Strain or Healthy Muscle Training?

One of the best advice I've ever heard: If you feel your voice, you're doing something wrong. Proper guidance, solid technique and daily practice should fix this.

Re: Vocal Strain or Healthy Muscle Training?

It's hard to tell what's really going on without seeing and hearing you sing. It could be tension in the tongue.

Re: Vocal Strain or Healthy Muscle Training?

The problems are gone now as I've continued to work more on relaxing larynx as much as possible, probably tensed it a bit too much in order to get proper sound out (no crackling).

Now I can slide from the top of my voice to the bottom (in falsetto slides) without almost any breaks or cracks, I feel great!

BTW, just hit C6 today. E2 - C6 is ny my official range, hehheh :D

C6? REALLY? Dude you realize how high that is?

Re: Vocal Strain or Healthy Muscle Training?

Yea I do, it's sick. I already had a huge range, when I began singing, and I have no idea why. I'm not complaining though :D

I'm really really excited about this thing (learning to sing properly, had this limited-to-chest-voice technique for 9 months), because I've been dreaming about singing and making music for living for my entire life and now, thanks to Jamie and his motivational book, I feel that I can actually accomplish that goal. It's so cool!

I actually couldn't sleep last night, because I was so thrilled by the fact, that "Tomorrow I can continue my singing training and sing more songs", heh :D

Re: Vocal Strain or Healthy Muscle Training?

That is amazing! Congrats!I know that some people don't measure the notes correctly (thinking that middle C is C3 instead of C4 on a piano) and get let down when they find out they weren't going quite as high as they thought they were. I just didn't want you disappointed is all! Great job, man.

Re: Vocal Strain or Healthy Muscle Training?

Yeah, I was suspicious too, so I had to check it many times before actually believing it. I did it with Ableton Live's piano roll, and began from E2, which is my lowest note, and gradually moved up without dropping any octaves down accidentally and actually got there, so that convinced me.

Re: Vocal Strain or Healthy Muscle Training?

Glad you are having great results:) If the soreness doesn't fade fairly quick and if a few hours later the throat is still sore, then it's a strain issue. Otherwise, it's just a little muscle burn;)
