THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Some tech questions

Hey there!

I recently wanted to buy myself the sabine mt 9000 for my pitch training but I live in Austria and don´t own a credit card so I couldn´t order it on amazon.com
But amazon.at doesn´t sell the sabine mt 9000?
Do you know some other cool chromatic tuners like the mt 9000??? Jaime recommends it in RYV but he wrote this book some time ago, there have to be some other cool chromatic tuners available which are as good (or even better) and as cheap as the sabine mt 9000....

Another question!!! I have a shure sm 58 mic and a laptop and I want to use it for my online vocal lessons but how do I use it with my computer, do I need an adapter or something like that???

Thx for your replies!!!
René

Re: Some tech questions

I'm not sure about the tuner but I can answer your question about the mic. Plug it directly into your computer (you might need an adapter or use a sound interface if you have one. Then in Skype, go to Tools/Options/Audio Settings and check if Skype picks it up in the drop down menu. If not, you might need an interface. Hope that helps!

Re: Some tech questions

You can also use the software "Reaper", which has an excellent built-in chromatic tuner. It's a little advanced, but if you need a walk-through, I can put something together for you.

I've teaching myself to play bass on a fretless and checking the tuning as I play in Reaper is invaluable.

Re: Some tech questions

For best results when recording, you are going to need a proper balanced XLR microphone preamp, or a sound card with one. But for the Skype lessons, get an XLR->Jack adapter and use that with the mic input of your PC (which is normally pink).
