THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Practicing Daily

Hi everyone,

Do you think it is ok to practice just about every day and just take a random day off every few weeks as needed, or would I be better off practicing 6 days a week and taking a regular weekly rest day?

I have RYV but haven't re-read it in a while so I can't remember if this is addressed in the book. I have been taking 1 day a week off but my voice feels fine on my rest day so I would like to get the additional practice in if it wouldn't hurt anything. I usually practice anywhere from 40-120 minutes a day depending on how much free time I have and am always good about warming up and cooling down my voice.

Thanks,

Jason

Re: Practicing Daily

Hey Jason,
I'd say go ahead and just watch how your voice feels. I personally think one day of rest will be more of a benefit. Since you're building muscles a day of rest helps in that process. I usually take one day off but I do some light warm ups and stuff on that day and then I make the next day an easy workout. So I have 5 days a week that I'd count as training specific. But listen to your voice and if you can handle 7 days a week then do it! :)

Re: Practicing Daily

Thanks Melanie - that is very helpful. I think I will do a very easy routine on my "rest day"; no singing songs but just a warm up, some isolation exercises and a cool down. If I notice any negative effects I will go back to taking a full rest day but I think I should be fine as long as I keep it nice and easy.
