THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Tongue exercises

Hi Melanie,

Once you can get rid of the gag-reflex and tame your tongue, you'll be surprised at how much fullness you get out of your voice. Keep it up! Everyone thought I was nuts because I was doing this stuff, but then when they heard me sing, they were floored by the quality of my voice - and I totally owe it to Jaime's teachings.

Tim

Re: Tongue exercises

Hey both!

I like the way, how you can remain silent
and still better your singing in so many ways.

I do have one question though.
Do you know of any way to release the stress at night?
Often, I do these exercises, too.

But got so used to a great amount of tension over the years,
that, as soon as I stop thinking, trying to sleep,
I clench my teeth and my larynx shoots up.

Trying to keep it actively relaxed,
I cannot fall asleep.

My jaw is locked in my every morning.

Best, ƒe.

Re: Tongue exercises

@Tim When you want something bad enough you'll work for it. And do whatever it takes. Even if it's a crazy exercise ;) That's what Jaime has made me realize.

@Felix Have you ever tried doing Vocal Stress Release before going to bed? If you don't want to do the whole thing maybe you should try the ones made specifically for the jaw and facial muscles. Like the jaw tension release and crazy face.
I would also recommend going to a chiropractor. I had TMJ pain once and after one visit my jaw was fine. But you may need more work since mine wasn't that bad to begin with.
Also you could try bullfrogs to keep the larynx down.
Hope this helps!
Melanie
