THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: I stopped thinking about placement, and now I'm singing better than ever?

Hey.. What I found was that you should never focus on those things alone but rather work on knowing and getting that sensation..
I still have to work on mine though but after "feeling" around for those sensations I found it's much easier to sing and I know that there is a lot less strain. As Jaime say, "NEVER feel it in your throat". But as long as your doing it and not feeling any strain..

Maybe now you've come to a point where you don't have to think about it but it happens subconciously :)

I've only been on for a month so now a hundred% sure on this though:)
Hope it helps.

Re: I stopped thinking about placement, and now I'm singing better than ever?

Just like the band TOOL said:

"Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind"

Hehe =)

I had a similar experience recently. About a month ago, I just stopped trying so hard for the highest notes in a couple of the songs I practice to. Something just clicked for me, cuz ever since then I've been able to effortlessly hit even the highest stuff. I can nail Queensryche's "Take Hold Of The Flame" and "The Lady Wore Black" or Triumph's "Fight The Good Fight" every time, no problem. No more tension in the throat that I used to experience when I went for the high stuff, and I'm not vocally "tired" after those songs either! Whatever I learned to change is just like magic! I've heard others here describe it as just "letting go" and I didn't really know what they meant, but now I understand!

I agree sometimes thinking too much comes in the way. Trying to relax is more important :))
