THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

help me with my siren!

i was hoping someone could tell me how to make my siren less whiney. it's a big problem because i feel like i have no control in the tone once i get over my bridge.

also, i can't SING over my bridge, only make sounds. by this i mean, if i try and sing an actual phrase in this whiney voice, it breaks apart into falsetto.

so someone please help, i've made a lot of progress with it.

btw i sent this to my friend sarah so that's why i talk to her in the beginning.
please help!

Re: help me with my siren!

I'm no expert, but first thing I would recomend you doing is:
1) when you warm up, do it slowly and concentrate on the resonance feeling especially where your voice breaks.
2) when you do the siren, do it slowly too because we want to learn how to control those breaks.
3) when going up when doing siren, make sure you get that same feeling with the resonance. you could do a siren with lip bubbles follow by the same notes siren with full voice.
4) when going higher, don't push hard. you should be able to use less air and still get the notes easier. remember, less air doesn't mean it will be quiet. focusing on resonance will make those notes really loud.
5) you can always change the tone later. trascending tone works it nicely.
let me know how it works for you :)

Re: help me with my siren!

thanks bud :D
i'll try and slow it down next time.
on a side note--why do my posts always get the least number of responses!?!?!

Re: help me with my siren!

Not a problem :) Remember to feel the high notes up by your soft palate. Feel the vibration and the switch and how different it is compared to chest/ nixed voice. Sing after youve done your siren workout and apply the same technique, that way it will recorded in your "muscle memory"
