THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Proper Headvoice?

1 and 2 are falsetto, focused differently. 3 is full voice and has quite a nice tone, IMHO, you need to reduce the tension and you'll find the high notes easier to control.

Re: Proper Headvoice?

nathan, can u pls describe in detail how are you producing that third sound? I just can't figure it out how to belt so high

Re: Proper Headvoice?

Well there is definitely tension on the top note.

How I make it?... Erm... I cannot remember. I only figured that part out a year or so ago, before that it was a lot of heavy belting, breaking and general being out of tune.

I think I just tried sirens on "Yay" and the transcending tone on "Yay" and made it louder. I visualised the chords kinda tightening and it happened. I think I sort of stopped worrying too much about whether or not it was correct also.

In hindsight this may have been bad. Again, I'm still not sure my headvoice is correct. However, I think it is definitely getting there, at least on the right lines.

I wouldn't recommend following advice I give, though. That is definitely a recipe for disaster. I'm not an expert. I'm still a mere beginner.

Sorry if I wasted your time with that :)

Re: Proper Headvoice?

its all in the book alex. really. also, open vowels are very easy to hit high notes like AHH, as opposed to saying GU like "glue" try singing notes on AHH then GU and see how you lose about an octave of range! vowels are ****en important to learn to sing high I think. Example, I can hit E5 on a good shape like AHH, but in actual singing where different vowels are comin out my range is down to like G4 at most. transcending tone is fantastic exercise as is practicing different vowles on scales but really do EVERYTHING.

Re: Proper Headvoice?

ok thanks Nathan....and Phil i know about it, but i just can't do so high sounds in full voice without pushing...i have a theory that singing so high is all about having strong vocal cords since they are muscles and u are making them stronger by those sirens and different exercises.....so when they are strong enough to do their job themselves u can go to those higher notes and you won't strain because u won't be blocking your throat and so u won't use too much air.....do you think it can be this simple?

Re: Proper Headvoice?

it's coordination. you can already hit the high notes in falsetto. you just need to teach the body how to reach those notes with full power, which takes TIME, CORRECT PRACTICE, and CONSISTENT PRACTICE. transcending tone is your best friend here, but really, you need to do all the exercises.
