THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Falsetto slide questions

I agree with Stan, smoothing the break area comes with time and practice. i find slowing down and using less volume helps me.

Re: Falsetto slide questions

Nice, so you guys are saying I shouldn't worry about raising my pitch when going back into chest? Or I should aim for it? I'm still confused on that...

Re: Falsetto slide questions

i don't know what you mean. what i'm telling you is to not worry about it and keep practicing the exercise for a few weeks more, and see if the problem has diminished.

Re: Falsetto slide questions

Coming from my experience I would say that lowering the volume and feeling your throat by gaining consciousness of what you are doing helps. Unluckily/luckily for me I gained a feeling for my throat right before I got into RYV by screaming too much and getting a throat irritation. I got to meet a great EMT and found out about RYV. So I can feel when my laryinx shifts.
Bad thing is that after I finish the slides the next day I'm in pain so I have to be extra careful. It feels exactly like working out for the first couple of times right after you haven't for a long time. Slow the volume and reduce pitch at a very very slow rate, specially around your break, you'll realize that what you're trying to accomplish by keeping the pitch while transcending into full voice will happen naturally. If you try to do it you'll constraint your movement and your voice will jump. Just relax and let your body take care of itself. If you play any instrument that requires dexterity with your fingers you know you cannot play fast if you tense up, right?
Same thing here.
Surrender to the movement.

Re: Falsetto slide questions

Thanx, ill give it a try by slowing it down.
@ Phil, I was saying that when I slide down from falsetto and reach down c4, my voice brakes and goes into chest but hitting c3 instead of c4.
