THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Critique Please.

Hey guys.
Just recorded 2 small clips of myself.
Critique! =]
Be entirely honest and ridiculously harsh please, no white lies :P

Knockin' on heavens door (excuse my awful guitar playing in this one)

War Pigs

Things I should be doing? Exercises that can help my bad points? Etc.

Re: Critique Please.

filesizes are unreasonably huge mate, should try compressing em to 128kbps mp3.

overall your voice is good man, just sounds like you need to practice the songs more. what i'm saying is, if you were to perform, you'd just need to work on the songs more so that they're ingrained better, so that pitch and placement and fullness and naturalness are all taken care of (these types of issues are cured when you practice the song a million times) other than that all good.

war pigs sounds a bit like your singing a bit nasally, try pinching your nose, if the tone changes it may be a bit too nasally, adjust it so that when you pinch your nose your tone doesn't change. you might get a nicer full sound this way.

can't remember if you're the dude that was whinging that you werent improving or not, but if you are, that's bull****, you're definately well on your way mate.

Re: Critique Please.

Sorry about the bad format. Tried to convert to MP3 but it wouldn't happen. Do you know of any free file conversion software?

Hadn't practiced war pigs much at all, but used to do knockin' on heavens door all of the time.

Yeah, that was me lol. Still though, I'm not where I want to be yet. Hopefully I can soon get some lessons with Mr Vendera =]
Maybe that'll help... :)

Re: Critique Please.

Audacity should do it but you may need to install a plugin. Google for audacity mp3.

I think you could improve KOHD by adding more feeling and passion. I think you sounded a bit melancholic which is probably OK for a dying sheriff :) But I would try to add some cry and despair into sound. Well, matter of taste. Try this: read the lyrics aloud a couple of times and visualize, imagine the song. Give your 101% next time you sing it!
