THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Voice just doesn't sound good

Currently it's only YOUR opinion. We haven't heard it yet to judge :)

But remember, pro singers use auto tunes, vocal effects and have expensive producers to make them sound good.

How long have you been singing? Why do you think you voice is bad?

Re: Voice just doesn't sound good

i have recorded my own voice singing and i dont like the quality or tone of it....it sounds like someone who cant sing trying to sing in my opinion

Re: Voice just doesn't sound good

your tone will develop the more you practice:

make sure you have vocal idols that stylisitcally you want to aim for. if you aren't aiming for something you can't expect to reach it.

the development of correct support and resonance improves tone, this comes with practice. it's all in time, just make sure you are aiming for a certain style that you like or a certain quality in a singer you watn to emulate. 3 qualities in 3 different singers and you'll develop an original style.

Re: Voice just doesn't sound good

Yeah, I think i know what he means. It's like you think you're doing everything correct when you sing, but when you playback your recording..you don't sound like someone who can sing at all. I guess that's what scales are for...

Re: Voice just doesn't sound good

I´ve got the same feeling for a long time! So I decided to record my singing practice also, the results? the exercises sound awful in the first place, but I didn´t notice. I was straining so hard and sounding like choked. The best advice I can give you with my own experience, is to record your exercises also, if they are not good, singing is not good either. Also, it helps to do some style exercises, not just technical ones.

Re: Voice just doesn't sound good

Get a VAM, or just cup your hand around the back of your ear and pull it forward to catch more of the sound coming out of your mouth as you sing. That will help you get used to what your voice actually sounds like. It's quite a bit different sounding, and more representative of the sound others would hear as you sing. That helped me immensely.
