THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Im i doing it right? (transcending tone)

Im really having trouble with this exercise, mainly because im not sure if im doing it right. So what i do is start on middle c with a very light and pure falsetto, but as soon is i start to gain volume,i just break. i cant even describe the sound, its like falsetto and full voice mixed together and then i end up a whole octave below middle c in full voice...

Re: Im i doing it right? (transcending tone)

Make sure your doing the proper breathing. re-read the chapter on breathing and practice that, phonebook on the stomach, should be able to lift up the phone book etc.

you will indeed crack and flip doing transcending tone exercise, but you will have alot more success if you do the proper abdominal breahting jaime talks about in the book. make sure you don't skip anything he talks about in the book it's all there because it's all necessary

Re: Im i doing it right? (transcending tone)

Post a sample if you can. TT is the most difficult vocal exercise in the program. Jaime said that it must be done SLOWLY to help muscle memory. And this is not an exercise that can be "mastered" in weeks. I have been doing it over 6 months and still struggling - but not giving up: this exercise will change your voice and range over time!

Re: Im i doing it right? (transcending tone)

I'm also having a hard time with the exercise. I think I've asked this like 15 times, but I keep forgetting the answers given. When doing the transcending tone, is it safe to keep pushing down as you go transcend to full voice? That's what I always do, but I never know whether it's correct. Locking down for support once you sustain that "yay"... and keeping the same downwards energy while you're swelling into full voice doesn't make that much sense to me... so I continue pushing and pushing as I get louder.
