THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Vendera Vocal Cord Video

I also want to apologize to Sofus if my earlier post seemed harsh;) I'm always open to learning and always excited about it. Seeing those videos doesn't change the way I teach grit but it does open one's mind to many alternatives of possibilities;) So Sofus, email me at venderaj@msn.com, I got a little present for you. Email me too Jens and John King, because i have to tell you something besides that you both are doing an awesome job on here!

Re: Vendera Vocal Cord Video

I never could quite understand how you do grit. The only thing I can manage to do is a breathy vocal fry... kinda like what Byran Adams does. But I don't know I'm really using the 'false folds' to do that, I feel like the rasp comes from my palate rather than the cords.

Re: Vendera Vocal Cord Video

I saw your videos about grit again to remind me on how you teach it jaime.
YOu describe pretty much the sensations one would feel when using the falsefold distortion.
Seams to be spot on for that :P

Re: Vendera Vocal Cord Video

never doubted your methods for a minute Jaime. You don't need to go to all this trouble to prove yourself, the fact you can sing the way you do proves your methods work. and the fact all the people you train get the results they do prove they work. proof is in the doing, anyone willing to seriously try your methods will see results. I've stuck to your book for over a year and have seen great results, i'm still not at the level I want but obviously high skill takes high time and high practice, results will come slowly and definately.

Thankyou for doing what you do

Re: Vendera Vocal Cord Video

I just watched that video... and I'm wondering, when they mentioned that you shouldn't tighten your lips when using grit/rasp, how DO you tighten your lips in the first place? In fact, I just tried it, and I can't really tighten my lips up for any "leverage". The jaw, yeah, but not the lips.

Re: Vendera Vocal Cord Video

Phil noone has ever doubted jaimes methods...
This is more or less science based, as there are many ways to create distortion by manipulation the folds both false and regular aswell as the vocaltract.

So I dont think for a second that jaime wants to prove himself, probably more out of intrest. Who doesnt wanna learn new approaches and ideas? As jaime is a teacher it's important to be able to tackle things from diffrent angles.

The good teachers and singers constantly learn, the bad dont :P

Re: Vendera Vocal Cord Video

Oh I hope I didn't cause confusion. It wasn't to only prove my methods; it was done for more understanding. And I am so glad Sofus posted those videos. I've always believed that th falsies do affect or manipulate the tone but I've never seen such a wonderful video of them actually slapping together. That's why I am waiting on Sofus to email sonI can send him a gift for his wonderful contribution to this board:)
