THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: What physical workout?

I run on a treadmill 30-60 minutes per day, while singing or doing vocal exercises. I also do Be-Breathed, Flow Fit, Stage Crazy, etc.

Re: What physical workout?

Run while you sing or do vocal workouts..
You will be very tired very soon in the beginning but that gives CRAZY results while your working out! :D
(I tried it, It's crazy..)

(Jaime all the way man.. :P )

Re: What physical workout?

You might want to look into P90X or Insanity. I lot 80 pounds doing P90X, and I'm fit as hell. I do it in my backyard, no gym memberships!

Jaime, you should make an multipart epic vocal workout dvd, a series that forces you into proper technique! V90X! Voice 90 Xtreme! I'd buy and use it every day!

Re: What physical workout?

I'm starting strength training and I started to do 60 minutes of cardio a few times a week. I know a lot of singers don't look like BodyBuilders... but I still want to add some muscle and just look and feel good. What's the point of joining a gym? ;)

Re: What physical workout?

to whoever said "whats the point of joining a gym?" because if you don't have a squat rack, you should be joining a gym. anyone that wants strength should be doing squats and deadlifts and shoulder presses. running is the best method of improving endurance/stamina and also carries over very well to singing as most here have already pointed out.

I am a big believer in home gym training without fancy equipment, but if you want big strength you'll need a rack to hold the bar for squats. stick to the weights not the machines and stick to the big movements that hit the whole body, none of these little "isolation" exercises can't stand this whole "bicep day" and "chest day" just work the whole body.

Re: What physical workout?

Thanks guys! Gonna try that running and singing at the same time as I keep on going to the gym once or twice a week. I bet I'll annoy the **** out of people but if that's what it takes then ok :)

That P90X sound interesting too.

Re: What physical workout?

Wow I just came home, I was just jogging and I sang almost the whole time. It was awesome! At the end I couldn't hold it back, I sang I Remember You (Skid Row) with the powerful high parts and in the same key! I hope someone heard me, because it was loud and it was beautiful :) My voice worked as well as it works at its best (with my current skills), except the fact that I was out of breath!

That was great and I'm gonna start doing this more. Thanks for the tip guys, especially Jaime :)

Re: What physical workout?

sounds excellent i might give it a try.
