THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: New cover!

Good job. It's obvious that you've got a good sense for music and you've got good pitch, which is one of the most important things to have for a singer. You're singing it a bit softer than Adam, almost in falsetto, which gives it a different effect. I assume that you want to be able to sing high notes with power (every singer's dream, right?) so then it's a matter of sticking with a vocal exercise routine like Raise your voice, CVT, etc. ... for a long time until your voice gets gradually better. Try doing the full voiced sirens in RYV and when you get to the top note, switch to singing a line from some song, all in one breath. That's a good way to get you to go from exercises to songs.

Re: New cover!

Thanks for your input! I was kinda going for a softer/airier sound. I felt that it fit better with the message of the song, like a lament. What did you think about the high Eb at the end?
If it sucked, please tell me. I've never posted anything that high before on this forum. Little nervous about this.

Re: New cover!

That high note at the end was not quite good enough for a professional record to sell. I'm just being honest. However, I'm also being honest when I say that I think you totally have the capability to improve on that note and your singing. That note was not that bad, but it was "almost" great, but not great. And I could really, really hear that it was mostly because of your insecurity about knowing that that note was about to come, and also because you simply need to train more before being able to nail songs like that on a regular basis. Hey, I'm on that same boat, so I know it sucks but you just gotta get a good program and/or a vocal coach and put in the hours, man. RYV is one of the best courses out there.

But you might want to do a re-take of that song and this time sing it with NO emotion at all (just for the time being, because emotional singing can actually screw things up when you're learning how to do this stuff). And when that high note comes, sing it like you don't care if it cracks or not. You will probably feel an increase in your support when you do it, especially if you put just a bit more volume in it, but it's usually the fear of failing that causes failing in singing (and in many other things in life, actually).
