THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: What do you guys use besides RYV?

I of course use Jim Gillette's scales and I really like Lugo's warm ups.

Re: What do you guys use besides RYV?

Hey J, you know Kevin has almost all of Gillett's scales in his program in addition to his own exercises, so I find that really great. Basically, I'm doing like 3 programs, and it's working out quite well.

Re: What do you guys use besides RYV?

I sometimes warmup up with James Lugo's program, it's nice.

Normally I do some lip rolls and then RYV program. Sometimes I do 4 pillars after RYV, or 4p first and RYV after.

I have also BtC but I haven't yet adopted it into my practise routines. It looks good though.

Oh, and I do UBW a few times a week. When I started last autumn, I did Thomas Appell's program but I have quitted it after I started RYV. It's the only program that has vibrato exercise included. Thomas' program is OK but I can't stand it anymore without editing the lecturing away from exercises :)

Then I have the Vocal Power DVD but I'm saving it for a rainy day :)

And finally there is the CVT book but it doesn't come with a designed program.

Re: What do you guys use besides RYV?

I use CVT.

Re: What do you guys use besides RYV?

I also use CVT and I really like it BUT, it´s not a singing program, it´s more like a singing encyclopedia, wit tons of information and vocal research, but it´s not organized or planned in secuencial order, (which I don´t like) it´s up to you how to use it. I´ve recently checked out the breaking the chains program, and as far as I´ve seen on Kevin´s youtube channel, it´s pretty cool, it has the main 3 RYV exercises, Brett Manning and James Lugo exercises, and it seems that Gim Gillette´s too.

Re: What do you guys use besides RYV?

I love RYV, so it cannot be substituted for anything.
I've been combining it with Lugo's program. I really enjoy doing both of these programs but they don't seem to flow together nicely. It doesn't feel like a good combination. I tried combining it with Jim's scales too, even though it flows better, Jim's exercises don't challenge me as much (especially when singing 'through' the passagio) as Lugo's.

Re: What do you guys use besides RYV?

I do Breaking the Chains followed by RYV. Iys been working nicely. BTC allows me to really hit RYV even harder.

Re: What do you guys use besides RYV?

I'm trying SS again. At first I tried for 6 months and made no progress despite having an inherently pleasant voice. I'm remembering why - it's so hard and there is minimal guidance. RYV has given me much more optimism.

I'm also seeking another supplement. I'm kind of stuck between Arceneaux's latest offering and Breaking the Chains. I have aspirations to sing like U2/Radiohead/Muse, so I'm not sure if either of them are relevant. If you guys have any advice, feel free to give it. :-)

Re: What do you guys use besides RYV?

I use mainly Singing Success and they've been working great and now I just bought Ken Tamplin DVDs and some lessons with the guy, it's going to be awesome! RYV was the first book I read about vocal technique and singing and it's something that I will go back to for some detailed information whenever I feel I need to.

Singing Success exercises and "light and right"-approach really helped me correct many of the basics that I needed to deal with (I'm not done yet though!) and I'm already taking singing to a whole new level, now it's time for some Ken Tamplin stuff!

Re: What do you guys use besides RYV?

i use Thoma appell can you sign high c without straining after RYV warmups and then i go back to transcending tone and pharyngeal excercises , also now studying SLS from sett riggs
