THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

How should i continue?

Hi!

I've been singing about two months now and i really want to hit those high notes with full voice as soon as possible. I can sing now from C2 to C5 with full voice (from E4 to C5 i have the basic problem ; pulling chest) I can also use my head voice from the E4 up to A5, sometimes even C6. Now i feel that i am standing in the same place and don't know how to change my head voice tone, which is very "hoody", to more Rock-like tone. I even can sing from bottom to highest notes without breaks but only with "hoody" vowel.
I have used the transcending tone exercise but i think i do it wrong because it feels like change from falsetto to pulling chest - too much strain.
Do you have any ideas how should i continue to work this out? Other thing is that how much should i practice per day?

Re: How should i continue?

Look for a vocal coach to guide you at this point.

Re: How should i continue?

Ok. There is just a little thing that here in Finland is no coach for rock singing. We have classical teachers but i think thats it :)
Maybe i have to buy webcam so i can take lessons from you or something...

Re: How should i continue?

Jaime is the best! Take lessons from him.

Re: How should i continue?

Ah, a countryman, finally :D

I have taken a few lessons from Rob Lunte via Skype and I have a local teacher (CVT based). We haven't done any high stuff but more basic exercises. I'm looking forward to call Jaime's skype phone some day ;)

Oh, btw: if you live near Kimmo Blom.. He might teach, I heard some rumors. That guy is a real rock tenor!

Re: How should i continue?

Rockyeahh! I finally found a way through the problems with pulling chest and "not-so-good" sounding head voice. The ultimate solution was THE BULLFROG-exercise. Unbeliveable! And funny thing is that i just made about 30 per day of them in a couple of days. Now it feels that all tension is gone, i can sing any note easily and i can stay connected through the breakpoints. I can feel how the resonance goes naturally from chest to head.
