THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: soft pallet focus

Well, I think I am singing and focusing there. When it do it my chest voice sound really rich and singing is almost.....effortless. It didn't feel strong per-say......but my voice sounds really rich and thick when I do it. I know I feel like there is no tension in my neck or throat.

Re: soft pallet focus

That's how it should be ;)

Re: soft pallet focus

Thanks man. I just discovered it yesterday. I would sometimes do it unknowingly and sometimes not. My tone was really inconsistent. Now that I know what it feels like, it's a lot easier to sing and have consistently good tone. I've also found that it's easier to focus the tone properly if I take a proper inhale. This is so freakin neat! Honestly when I first started reading RYV I thought Vendera was kind of full of it. I'm coming to realize more and more though that he put everything in the order that it is for a reason. I'm going back and starting over and making some really good improvement with my voice. Jamie is the man.

Re: soft pallet focus

Cool, man. Just keep doing what you do, I'm sure you're on the right track...

Re: soft pallet focus

if you pinch your nose and your tone changes it means your being nasally, project your voice back in the soft palat (upper back throat) which fixes that problem, thats how i know i'm singing in the soft palate. it also resonates alot more when i do it right. try doing it wrong on purpose and noting the difference.

Re: soft pallet focus

I've got it now, man. I was focusing on the soft pallet more than I thought I was. I just wasn't always consistent with it. Thanks.
