Hello Per,
The times I have been informed about special leave from a TD have included a fair amount of detail.
Example:
Your opponent has been hospitalized until such and such date because of such and such reason, and his wife/daughter/son informed the TD of the situation.
I appreciated the information for various reasons:
1) I normally become friends with my opponents and even if it's early in the game, I would like to send an email of encouragement to them or their family.
2) It's nice to know what to expect regarding that particular game, i.e. how long it is going to be delayed, do I need to begin working on information for an adjudication, etc.
3) If the opponent has requested special leave more than once, particularly if they are losing or otherwise delaying the game, I am more likely to question the situation.
Usually, when the special leave is granted for attendance to Congress or play in an OTB tournament, the player themselves informed me.
All the best,
Grayling |
