I reiterate. Regardless of whether there is a rule or not, all instances of Special Leave in every non-webserver tournament I have particpated in, have been notified by the TD with a reason given. Perhaps I have just been lucky in having good TDs. But in any case communication happens. Perhaps simply because it is a necessity.
Having TD'd myself, including a webserver event at the moment, I am acutely aware of the difference. A webserver TD need do very little (just about nothing if all players are "well-behaved").
Here is an instance where webserver is different and therefore a rule may be needed where one did not exist in Email/Postal.
Let's take any leave in EMail. Your opponent has to notify you before commencement of leave. On the webserver you may not be aware until you make a move and find your opponent is already on leave. Of course you could check all games every day, but this seems to remove much of the "low maintenance" benefit of using the server. Perhaps opponents on leave could be highlighted in some way?
I will make one final point. I have on two occasions objected to Special Leave being granted. On both occasions the TD had granted it in error due to changes in rules and/or guidelines. One withdrew the leave, the other I was forced to appeal (successfully, of course). With the webserver it looks like that right has been abrogated. I would be worried that it would make for lazy TD'ing. Perhaps reason for Special Leave should be shown somewhere in the details |
