Dear Steve,
Thanks for your comments.
The story with time control and Season 2 was one of bad timing; Season 3 must have at the most 10/50; my personal choice would be 10/45. I calculate with this time control, an event duration of 20 months; or maybe 21 if a special leave is granted somewhere. This would give 3 months for any possible adjudications, and arrangements for the following season.
I would prefer to be cautious considering those players with a busy playing schedule, making sure we don't prevent them from registering in other events by being too "agressive" with a 10/40 Champions League. I have played 10/20 in other places and it's not blitz; but ICCF has a different tradition.
I understand the argument behind claiming a win with checkmate announced; but how would you justify this approach knowing that serious blunders do occur in won positions?
The solution to DMD involves in my opinion, a change in rule 3b, decreasing it from 40 days to 4 weeks; and not only a change in time control.
A final issue is the mode of transmission. I believe the CL needs to be server-only. The ability to control a 2-year cycle is seriously affected with the use of an unreliable method of transmission.
Believe me, we are trying to make things better. I'm sorry if we let you down during Season 2 by not achieving some of our goals.
Best,
Gino |
