Message:   Hi Eugen,

You have asked the relevant questions.

"From this point of view I think your decision to let the games continue is a good one."
Thanks. I made it in full cooperation with the NAPZ Director. She fully supports the concept of playing out this event without adjudications.

"Do you know if those games are still going on ..."
Yes, I am intimately involved in these games and know the positions. Because of previous postal delays, I am now acting as an intermediary to provide email service to one player in each of the critical games, and the games are progressing in a timely fashion at this point. I can't comment on the positions, but I will say that no DMD is involved and I expect an exciting finish. All players are playing seriously. I sure wish this event were being shown "live"! It would be a great advertisement for cc in ICCF. This is certainly chess competition at its finest!

Is this tournament delaying in any way another one?
No, this is a zonal final and is not used for seeding players into another event.

There has been one delay based on a story right off the front page. One of the players fighting it out for the championship is a police Captain in Boston and was recently involved in a shootout where a criminal shot at him numerous times from close range, nearly killing him and doing permanent damage to his hearing (I considered this sufficient cause for a special leave, particularly since this involved him in many hours of dealings with the courts to straighten things out). Anyone wishing to read a column discussing this case can check it out in the Boston Globe. The player is Tim Murray.
