TCCMB Chess Quote of the Week "We cannot resist the fascination of sacrifice, since a passion for sacrifices is part of a chess player's nature."
Rudolf Spielmann
I suppose it is always a mistake to attempt subtlety on message boards/forums. I first thought about responding to Gary Ruben's accusations with logical reasons for my actions as TD in the 4th NAPZ Championship, but then decided I wouldn't treat his very rude and obnoxious posting with a serious response. Instead I (attempted) to make a joke of his description of me as inept.
Gary and I have very different styles and quite different feelings about time controls in ICCF. What I tried to do to be helpful as a TD Gary interpreted as interference and insult. I don't really understand the personal dynamic in effect here, but I do know that we had many disagreements. I guess you can't make everyone happy.
My idea with the limerick was humor, not "self flagelation". I thought it was a pretty good effort! But I could easily be wrong.
Now please excuse me. I need to switch to another hair shirt. The one I'm wearing must be a bit worn down, as the hairs aren't being sufficiently irritating.
