When you're talking about the DMD you should really tell people you are directing an event which you have now extended to almost 5 years. NAPZ 4. A 15 player championship which started May 15,2002 and is now tentatively slated to end March 15, 2007.

Blaming the players for the DMD is not really fair. It's often the result of inept tournament directing.

An organization is always better to keep the players they have than to change the rules and have to replace the players who leave as a result of the rule changes. I noticed correspondence chess seems to have a high rate of burnout amongst the players. Shortening the time limits will simply make the problem worse.
