I think an incremental time control (such as 30+1 with a 90 day limit of accumulation) is the future of correspondence chess, especially on servers.
The only downside, that I can see, is that if you want to build up a bank of time, you must play the opening relatively quickly (say, 12 or 14 days for the first 10 moves). But most players know what they want to play, at this stage, anyway.
Accumulating 300 or 400 days is patently ridiculous, because you "can" use it. That ain't chess, or correspondence chess. It is Dead Man's Pace (DMP).
