Animal Communication Socially and Physically

The social behaviour of an animal is controlled by the outer stimulus which activates the inner senses that are strictly related to the physiological welfare, which in fact is not so different to that of human beings, be it that animals live within their own culture, we often find they need to adapt towards a humanised society or entirely human environment thus forcing them to deny their own identity.

To understand Animal ‘language’ one needs to take into consideration a holistic approach when analysing the various behavioural patterns. Social skills are developed at an accelerated speed in the early years, although good behavioural patterns can be reinforced by different means at any time even when they grow older. It might take a little longer for the animal advancing in age.

A comprehensive knowledge of the anatomy is required when forming a diagnosis in case of physical distress caused by illness. Animals do suffer headaches and other such ailments, only the manner in which they communicate when they are in pain requires careful observation combined with a sound considerate opinion, alongside the informed ‘technical’ skills of a good veterinary, be this traditional or alternative.

Nutrition is a very important factor to an animal’s good health and sense of well being. Commercial foods might be easy, but are perhaps not always as nutritious as one might expect, in relation to human foods one might compare the quality to eating the occasional hamburger, therefore to enable our domesticated pets to thrive, we need to pay attention to their natural diet.

The educated ‘animal’ has the ability to perform a variety of behaviours on cue and invariably expresses the mood through such set patterns when it tries to communicate with the human world. Clicker reward Training is an excellent way to teach an animal a variety of skills, as is laughter and other such human stimulus that enhances the ability of our ‘pet’ in a wonderful way it helps to reinforce good behaviours.

Mr. Fothergill, from Planet Earth, attacks Steve Irwin as irresponsible and a Clown?

I can't believe this Alastair Fothergill and would like to give him a piece of my mind. The shere arrogance of this man is so typical of those who live in the world of EGO.

Mr. Fothergill may present a very stylish and impressive scenario of the natural world, but would he be prepared to give his life to bring true insight into the world of nature as did Steve. I find his comments grossly insulting and furthermore unbecoming to a man in his position. From a Buddhist perspective we translate this as him manifesting his own life condition, in that he is actually rather jealous of Steve Irwin's remarkable achievements.

So, he may have been a bit loud and a risk taker, but he did this for all the right reasons. Steve was a friend of the people and loved life, which he was generous enough to share with the world. I know of few people willing to kiss a Croc, making the connection to the origin of their birth right and helping people realise that these not so pretty creatures are actually individual characters.

I vote for Steve and hope that other readers will express their views.
Thumbs up for Steve and his humble respect towards all living creatures.

Re: Mr. Fothergill, from Planet Earth, attacks Steve Irwin as irresponsible and a Clown?

On further reflection, I doubt if anyone disagrees that the programme Planet Earth with Sir David Attenborough as narrator is nothing other than spectacular.

Each episode may take 6 months to a year to film, edit and produce. I have no idea of the total budget invested in these series. The quality is picture perfect and 'shot' from a safe distance.

When comparing the standards of Crufts to a local dog show or indeed the Canadian Foster Mother, a man, to Grizzly Bears in Russia, the Abbot who developed Tiger Island in Thailand and other more 'hands on' animal documentaries, we are dealing with entirely different standards.

I live with a pack of dogs and my technique is entirely different to Victoria Stilwell, the dog Listener, dog borstal or the much loved Cesar Milan. I have ample critique as to the presentation of some who are given prime TV time, only to insult the owners as being stupid and addressing dogs as impossible, bad, 'dangerous' or other such belittling remarks. Making themselves appear so much better than the rest of us.

I do not deny animal abuse and dangerous human beings, torturing animals. You poke a dog with a stick long enough and eventually it will bite.

Whether conservationist, animal cop, human parent to a pet or animal handler, we all are on a learning curve and at different stages. People who are financially better off can provide more comfortable facilities, like they can offer a better education to their children. Being able to communicate and live with animals requires a certain skill and to some it is a calling. The late Steve Irwin's calling was the conservation and preservation of Crocodiles and he did a splendid job. He did it 'his' way, which is what life is all about. People manifesting their own unique individual talents. What would life be like if we were all clones of one another?

Shame on Mr. Fothergill for his grossly patronising remark and I believe he owes Mrs. Teri Irwin and the entire family an enormous apology.

Mercia, still speechless!
