William Gray

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to locate a William Gray on the 1881, 1891 and/or 1901 census. I know that he married Rose Hodkinson in 1894 when he was aged 27. They were married at Christ Church Pitsmoor and lived at 72 (William)and 81 (Rose)Woodside Lane. I have Rose in the 1881 Census, but other than the marriage certificate, cannot find any other references to either of them. Can anyone help?

Thanks, in anticipation, Tracy
Jasmine.

Re: William Gray

Hi Tracy
Where was William born... cos I have found a William and Rose Gray in the 1901 Census.....He was born Burton Agnes. Yorks. in 1863. Although they do have a Fred Knowles living with them as Brother in Law.which wouldn't fit. William was a Laborer Elect. App. Address Monmouth Street.
There is also a Rose Gray born Kimberworth in the 1901 working as a servant.
There are also assorted Grey and Grays in the Census... Place of birth would help. Maybe one or the other of them died so checking the GRO would help

Re: William Gray

Hi Jasmine, Tony and Angela,

Thanks for your replies. Here is some further information:

Rose (Ellen) Hodkinson was born in Sheffield in 1869 and was the daughter of William and Rose Hodkinson. William Hodkinson was a grinder who died in 1883. The Hodkinson family were living at 65 Hoyle Street (from 1867) in 1891, but Rose (daughter) was not with them then.
I do not know where William Gray was born. His occupation on the marriage certificate is labourer. His father is also called William and he was a furnaceman.
Tony - RE Jackson family - Thomas Jackson was a witness to the marriage.

Hope this information will help to shed further light.

Rosa Hodkinson Age 28......born Sheffield
Amos Hodkinson Age 7 ...........Sheffield
John Hodkinson Age 4 ..........Sheffield
Rosa Ellen Hodkinson Age 1......Sheffield

Address 65 Hoyle Street. Sheffield

1881 Can't find anything

I have found in the past that sometimes the names are transcibed wrong......try looking under Hopkinson

Re: William Gray

Hi Tracy

I haven't yet managed to find William and Rose. William's father died before the 1891 census. I have looked on freebmd and there are about 3 William Grays who fit as regards age at death.

I have found William's mother and sister, Mary. I thought perhaps William and Rose were maybe with them but unfortunately they are not.
