School Records
Hi, thanks for all the hard work on transcribing the school records, is there any more information on the original records ie: reason for leaving, or form number. Many thanks Sue Smith. |

Hi Sue There is very little extra on the originals and some have a lot more information in the registers than others. It doesn't say what form or class anybody was in. If a reason for leaving is given in the register it is up online. What we have left out in some of the schools is the grades the pupils have attained. We decided not to put these in, partly because they don't mean anything to us these days and partly because it may be that somebody might have achieved very low grades and not want it known. There are certain other things like indications of adoptions where the pre-adoption name was given to the school under condition that the original name was never revealed. Where this has occurred we have made a note that further information is available and the original documents should be consulted. We have not recorded some things from the remarks column where a very candid opinion was given about a child's character - again these are marked that there is further information available. Apart from that, everything that is in the register is transcribed and online. Please don't write in and ask for your relative's grades as there are thousands of images and it would be far too difficult a task to find a particular pupil or a particular image. If you are really desperate to find out you will have to go to Sheffield archives and look it up for yourself. Hope this gives you the information you need. Kind regards - Ann |
