Hi, Presuming he's born in Sheffield, there are a few possibles - Benjamin Mawson, son of William and Mary - Benjamin Hobson, son of Benjamin and Mary and Benjamin Pawson, son of John and Lucy. Any of those ring any bells? If not, could you let us know his parents names? cheers, Loraine |

Apologies! He was born Sheffield Mar Qtr 1892, his parents were (I believe) Sarah & George HOWSON. George had already died before the 1901 and Sarah was living at 34 Snow Lane with her son George, daughter & son in law Walter & Charlotte Lowery. In the Whites Directory Walter Lowery is living at 115 Scotland Street as a fishmonger. On Benjamins WW1 Service Records it lists his Next of Kin as Mother: Sarah HOWSON 115 Scotland Street, and also names his brothers George & Thomas as being NoK as well. Just cant find Benjamin on the 1901...and last night was the first time I knew that Ben existed! Thanks for taking the time to look Loz |

Hi Marlene Yes thanks I got that information from his Service Records. When he enlisted in 1912 he listed his Mum & Brothers as NoK. Then after his marriage he listed his wife. As I said, I never knew he existed until I found those records last night. His Gt Grandad & Gt Gt Grandad were called Benjamin...that was the only reason I looked at his records....I was just curious! Given that his Mother was listed as residing at 115 Scotland Street in 1912, and his Brother in Laws Shop was at that address in 1911...Thats how I deduced he was part of my family. Unfortunately I cannot find him at all on the 1901...and he was only 9 or 10 years old I have tried looking at all Benjamins born around that time...omitting the surname ...but still fruitless The only other thing I can think of is checking all other rellies to see if he was staying with them and got mistranscribed under their name........but I was sure I had all the rellies on this side accounted for Aah well back to the drawing board... Thanks for your help and interest Loz

I also cannot find him....yet! I've looked under just Benjamin too, you get the feeling that he's with a family member but, perhaps mistranscribed but, you obviously know the rest of the family better than I. I'll continue to look. Regards, Marlene |

I've looked under Hawson, which was the name of a butcher at Broomhill, Sheffield. I've also looked under Ben and B. but couldn't find him. Could be that he just didn't get recorded. The enumerator might have missed his name off when recording the family. Has been known to happen! Regards, Ann |
