Tyzick/Tyzack/Smith family

This is a long shot but has anybody come across the family of Thomas Tyzick and Mary Smith with a son Robert Tyzick born about 1838.
Here's hoping

Re: Tyzick/Tyzack/Smith family

Hello Janice

The only record I can find of him is in 1861 in Sheffield under Lyzack(a misreading of the original Tyzack). He is lodging with a George Lamb born Lincolnshire 1834 and an Elizabeth Lamb, his wife, born Bramley in 1830. Trouble is on another census she says she was born in Brampton. Bramley is Leeds way I believe. Robert says he was born in Sheffield.

I did notice a lot of various spellings of the name such as Tyzock, Tizzard, Lyzack, Tygaak and even Syzdek.

Re: Tyzick/Tyzack/Smith family

Thankyou for your information. I have looked at the 1841 and found a Thomas 35 and Mary 35 Tyzick with a son William 1 but what is odd is that there is a Robert age 4 and Lydia 10 years living virtually next door with a family by the name of Moss. don't know if this is possibly extended family

Re: Tyzick/Tyzack/Smith family

Hi Janice

How do you know he was the son of Thomas and Mary? It seems strange that he isn't on any census in Sheffield apart from 1861.

There is an Edward Robert Tyzack registered in 1842, and a Robert Tyzack found born 1828 in Bramley. If he was born 1838/9 there should be a birth registered for him, but there doesn't seem to be.

Hi,

The Bramley mentioned could be the one near to Rotherham. There is also a Brampton quite close to Rotherham.

Re: Tyzick/Tyzack/Smith family

Hi
According to his marriage certificate his parents are Thomas and Mary and he was in the 63rd Regt in Glasgow barracks. This is the long shot bit I believe that he Robert changed to name and ran away from the army to that of a Thomas Smith [there is a lot of evidence come to light to support this]. Thomas [robert] went on an had a family in Scotland and according to the 1901 census he is born Sheffield. for all other census records for scotland its recorded as England. So at present I am assuming rightly or wrongly he was born Sheffield area. I have found in the IGI a marraige for a Thomas Tyzack and Mary Smith 23rd Nov 1828 Cathedral St Peter. If this is the same family I dont know.
I have only found the marraige of Robert Tyzack and Agnes Morrison in the last few days. For years we have been looking for a marriage for Thomas Smith and Agnes Morrison. I even contacted the records office in Scotland without any luck.
A family story has come down the generations that Thomas Smith known as English Tom to us ran away from the army and changed his name. This now appears a strong possiblity.
With the varients for Tyzack being so many this doesn't help either.
Thasnkyou all for your time

Re: Tyzick/Tyzack/Smith family

Hi Janice.

As you have a regiment and where they were stationed he should be listed in the muster rolls and pay books which will be deposited at Kew.
The 63rd Regiment of Foot were known as The West Suffolk regiment and retained this title until 1881.After 1881 they became the 1st battalion Manchester Regiment.
I think you'll need a trip to Kew sometime. Have a browse at these two research guides:

Re: Tyzick/Tyzack/Smith family

Angela,
Thankyou for your response. I have made enquiries about the 63rd Regt and I am awaiting a reply. If in between time if anybody else comes or has a Thomas and Mary Tyzack in their tree with children I would be grateful to know the names.

Re: Tyzick/Tyzack/Smith family

Hi Janice,

I have a considerable number of Tyzacks in my tree but unfortunately can't tie in the Thomas and Mary that you have. However, you may find, http://www.tyzack.net, useful.
