And is this him on Duke Street Sheffield in 1851? Samuel Eyre 27 grinder born Castleton Mary Eyre wife 27 born Sheffield John Eyre, son 1 month Sheffield John Young visitor 21 tool filer Sheffield Ann Neals visitor 18 weaver Sheffield Have you already got the birth cert for the baby John, which would give you Marys maiden name? And from that the marriage which might give you Samuels father's name..? Heather |

Hi Jan, Now we know they were all born in Derbyshire my next step would be to go through the Parish Records for Cstleton......You will have access to them through Matlock Archives and any of the LDS Family History centers. Fingers crossed that you find the family.... Kindest regards. Elaine in Ottawa.

Hi Jan There's also an IGI record for a Samuel Eyre baptised 9/5/1824 Castleton, parents Samuel and Mary. Check out also www.wirksworth.org.uk Their petty sessions and quarter sessions records do have some EYRE names from Castleton, including miners. Note this mining would probably have been the local Blue John (or maybe lead) rather than coal. There are also some wills for Castleton Eyres at http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm Heather |

www.genogold.com also has some Eyre burials in Castleton. These all say "Record contributed to site by mike@decc9.fsnet.co.uk, research on Castleton Burials, Derbyshire" Maybe this Mike might be able to help you as well? Heather

Hi all Mike is Mike Spencer who has a huge presence on the Derbysgen mailing list. He also has a website called Yesterday's Journey which has a lot of information from old records other than census and Parish Records. http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm We have a quite a few Derbyshire links on this site. Go to Links in the left hand menu. Select Derbyshire from the list at the top. This gives you a good selection of Derbyshire genealogy related sites. Regards, Ann |
