Body-Solid Vertical Leg Press

Hey Guys,

I am very interested in purchasing this item:

http://gymratz.co.uk/weight-training-gym-equipment/item633.htm

But was wondering if someone could tell me what the difference is between this and the Powerline version?

I understand Powerline and Body-solid are the same company, so I'm not sure if they are the same thing...but the Powerline version is listed at £199 on other sites, has the same load capacity...etc. The only difference I can see is the fact the Body Solid version is 38" wide, where as the Powerline is listed as 46" wide.

Also, can anyone give me some opinions on this item.

I understand the Leg Press is no substitute for the Squat...but it would be nice to be able to have the option sometimes and I believe this would make a nice addition to my home gym.
Alot of people claim the vertical leg press is a dangerous exercise for the lower back, but this item looks pretty solid and the pads look like they would give the lower back plenty of support.

The main reason I would like to go for this is because I simply don't have the space for a bigger machine (already have a power rack set up). Plus you don't have to use quite so much weight as with the 45 degree sled type machines where the angle and gravity of the machine gives a different ratio of what you are actually pressing.

But do the vertical machines give the same range of motion as the 45 sled? (in other words, can you press quite deep?) I know Lee Haney was a big fan of the vertical leg press, although these are rarely seen in gyms these days.

Thanks
Matt

Re: Body-Solid Vertical Leg Press

Hi Tom,

It's the Powerline model. We're a bit out of date with this product as it's recently been brought down in price. Our price should now read £189.

However, there's a reason we're behind with updating this product. We don't tend to recommend the vertical leg press unless you've used one in the past and are happy with the feel. A vertical leg press has a much different feel to a 45deg leg press. Of course, this doesn't mean unpleasent - just different.

The vertical leg press may make a nice addition to your home gym, but if you're limited for space you've still got your rack for squats and lunges etc.

If you do decide to purchase one please be aware that it comes as standard fitment. If you've got olympic weights and want them to fit snuggly you'll be looking at paying an additional £35 for the olympic adaptor sleeves.

Regards,

Re: Body-Solid Vertical Leg Press

Thanks Matt,

I have only ever used the Leg Press once a few years ago...and it was a vertical machine which looked very similar to this one. I liked it a lot.
Never actually experienced the 45 Degree type, so I wouldn't know the difference between them in terms of how they feel.

A good 45 deg leg press is far more comfortable IMO. They're obviously quite big though.

Re: Body-Solid Vertical Leg Press

How is the back support on the powerline model?

I know this is probably one of the main reasons why people don't use the vertical models anymore...but Im fairly short and have good hip/back flexibility...so I'll probably be safe using this as long as my lower back doesn't come off the pad and is well supported.

I would like to get a 45 degree model, but as I said before...I don't quite have enough space for that at the moment :(

The powerline press is pretty good value for money too.

Re: Body-Solid Vertical Leg Press

I haven't used this particularly model myself, although I'm told that the support is comfortable. What you can't see on the picture is that it's got a contoured neck support and the back rest is angled slightly upwards towards the bum, so you're pretty much locked in place once you're performing the press.

The vertical leg press does offer good value, but then the whole range is well priced.

Matt,

Have you adjusted the price? it's still saying £249 on the site?

Thanks for all your help...I will probably purchase this next week.

Re: Body-Solid Vertical Leg Press

TOM,

Did you finally buy the Powerline vertical leg press ?
I expect to get this unit.

If you have it, are you happy with your purchase ? can you review it ?

Thank you.
