Re: standard bars
Hi Matty,
Standard bars aren't advertised with a rated load capacity. Normally anyone training who's reached such weights that they'd worry will have already switched to olympic weights and bars either at home or the gym. However, I can say that I've used around 150kg on standard bars in the past.
What sort of weight are you lifting?

Re: standard bars
so far i've got 170kg on it, dare'nt go much more though.
i've got myself an olympic weight set that i got from gymratz, actually all my stuff came from gymratz, but i just like to use my standard weights once in a while and wanted to know the limits before i damaged the bar.

Re: standard bars
Your bar must be starting to look a bit banana shaped when lifting. Probably best to start using your olympic bar and weights now and get use to them as your weights are only going to increase further .

i've just orderd another eight 5kg olympic plates so now i can start pressing overhead with my olympic bar.
( low rafters in garage, and im 6'2 ).
got about 120kg in weight including the bar with my 5kg plates and other 2.5ers now

Re: standard bars
That'll keep you going for a while .
I used to train in the garage as a boy and found the rafters a real pain. I've never liked seated pressing and I guess you're the same.

Re: standard bars
What about chest work? Don't you perform these led down or do you do cable work?

Re: standard bars
It's certainly a good weight you're pressing . I know training at home can be a compromise, but surely it can't be good for your long term development missing out body parts . With a bench and all those dumbells you could be having some really good full body workouts.
