Electronic BF% monitors - crap or what?
Copy of Pet post from URB
Recent studies in our shop provide humorous results.
Item tested Nias hand held height/weight/age/sex resistance
V
Slimguide Calipers
Fat Pete - Electronic thing = 22% - Calipers = 16.75%
Lean Matt - Electronic thingy = 21% - calipers = Circa 4%*
Cake eating Debs - Electronic = 27% - calipers = 17%
* The booklet that comes with the calipers doesn't go below 6% but using the following gave good indications
http://gymratz.co.uk/fatstuff/Bodyfat.xls
http://www.rustyiron.net/bodyfat.htm
Caliper results were all from the rustyiron 7 site calculator.
Basically, there is NO substitute for calipers. (Not any economicly viable ones any way)
Calipers available from all good stores.... and here

Re: Electronic BF% monitors - crap or what?
I am extremely dubious whether I'm anywhere near 4% as I'm 6wks out from comp with more weight to lose. I guesstimated that I'd be under 10%, but not by much. So that means either me and Pet can't do the caliper test properly or the tables, graphs and indeed measurement areas may not produce accurate results for abnormal circumstances, i.e. those less than 10%. I'm sure most would agree with the first, but the electronic calculator was still way off.
Or it could be that I've been applying so much moisturiser to avoid shaving rash this year that I was just too slippery.

I've never worked it out.
I'd say roughly 2050 kcal
about 200g protein and 200g carbs
about 50g fat
or thereabouts anyway.
I probably consume about double that on my fat day .
