Mariusz Pudzianowski Disqualified

See http://www.ironmind.com/morenews.php?id=963#963

It'd be interesting to find out what the substance was as I can't imagine they'd be very strict with drug testing. Unless they've just included recreational drugs in their banned list and that's why he's the only one to prove positive so far? It's all a little weird really.

Re: Mariusz Pudzianowski Disqualified

More on Mariusz. It appears he's been banned for a year, so that would explain why we haven't seen or heard anything of him. The article leads me further to believe that the ban was for use of a recreational drug.

Info below has been taken from IronMind.com

IronMind has just received clarification of the IFSA-imposed suspension of Mariusz Pudzianowski. The official IFSA statement follows.

"IFSA Strongman (worldwide governing body for the Strongman sport) has confirmed that one of its athletes has tested positive for a banned substance and as such breached its health policy.

The athlete is twice world champion Marius Pudzianowski from Poland, who recognized the breach and dismissed his right to have a B sample confirming the initial conclusion.

Pudzianowski tested positive in the World's Strongest Man 2004 competition, which took place in October in the Bahamas. An initial communication was sent to the athlete together with a provisional suspension on the 8th of November 2004. Pudzianowski acceptance of the result led to an official notification sent on the 20th of November 2004 informing him of a 12 month suspension which could be revised subject to the athlete taking part in a rehabilitation course.

As a result of this suspension Marius Pudzianowski is disqualified from the World's Strongest Man 2004 competition and his results voided including all prize money, ranking points and associated recognition.

'The doping tests are being conducted to make sure that the sport which is followed by a large number of young fans and families, remains clean and sets the example for the young generation.' Said Ali Gursoy, IFSA spokesperson.

'While IFSA allows several products which may be banned from other disciplines, the federation is particularly strict on substances that can affect the well being of its athletes. The banned substances list is updated regularly and all are parties given access to this information.'

'This is the first case IFSA have encountered and obviously whilst making everybody extremely sad the federation had to take action for the interest and integrity of the sport and all the parties involved in the discipline,' continued Ali Gursoy.

'Marius Pudzianowski is a great name in the sport and his contribution both from a personal and professional perspective has been widely recognized. He is a leading figure among fans, media, national and international governing bodies. However he breached the rules and accepted it, so the world governing body had no other choice but to suspend him from competing at any official or unofficial IFSA sanctioned competition for the next 12 months.'

The Federation's policy to support athletes in difficulty enables IFSA to offer to revise the suspension period if the athlete undertakes and successfully completes a rehabilitation scheme led by their own medical team."

Re: Mariusz Pudzianowski Disqualified

I tried to find out more on Mariusz today by entering his Polish chat room. The regulars seem unaware when he may be competing again and his official website still offers no information regarding his ban or return to competition. Ironmind have reported that he's due to compete in the 2005 Worlds Strong Man Super Series....I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Re: Mariusz Pudzianowski Disqualified

I came across your site when doing a search for Mariusz Pudzianowski on Google.

If they tested for steroids they couldn't call the contest "World's Strongest Man". We all want to see the biggest freakiest guys compete. I would guess that his disqualification from last years Worlds Strongest Man would be an indication that he has upset someone he shouldn't.

Re: Mariusz Pudzianowski Disqualified

You're probably right about him upseting someone he shouldn't - just seems a little strange how little information there is about what went on. Also, he's now competing in the World Strong Man Series when I believed he was still banned from competition.

Who knows?? Well, Mariusz probably does. It'll still be good to see him competing this year and hopefully in the World Strong Man Finals.

UPDATES GALORE

Found out from a Pol with good English that Mariusz is competing again. Not with the IFSA but with WSM. In fact Mariusz won the latest comp held last weekend at California's Muscle Beach, apparantly it was very close though. See http://www.super-series.com/ homepage for report.

Good to see Mariusz is back competing.

Re: Mariusz Pudzianowski Disqualified

He certainly is a class act, but drug free??

I'm sure there's nothing he takes that other top competitors don't and he still comes out way in front.

Jesse Marunde's certainly one for the future though.

Re: Mariusz Pudzianowski Disqualified

Let's face it, without competitors using gear off season to increase strength/muscle mass there would be some very boring competitions both strength and bodybuilding.

I guess the point in question is competitors need to stop taking gear soon enough that at point of competition they are clean, otherwise they would indeed have a significant advantage over their fellow competitors.

I am wondering as I type this, whether the likes of Mariusz Pudzianowski etc who have tested positive have done so not so much because they intended to "cheat" but more that they got their timing of coming off the gear wrong, or possibly using something like Decca to help reduce joint pains etc? (though that would be a little daft going into a tested comp. knowing you would test positve through such action)

Whichever way, it's good to see him back in action.

Cheers
Pete
